About me

Tian Fei received his bachelor’s degree from the Central Conservatory of Music in China, majoring in piano. After coming to Canada he received his Artist Diploma from the Vancouver Academy of Music as well as his master’s degree from the University of Toronto, specializing in piano performance.

Tian's Mentors:

  • Professor Yafen Zhu, mentor of world famous pianist Lang Lang

  • Professor Ling Zhao, Central Conservatory of Music

  • Mr. Lee Kum Sing, professor at Vancouver Academy of Music, and International Chopin Piano Competition judge

  • Professor Marietta Orlov (1932-2020), University of Toronto

  • Professor James Parker, University of Toronto, head of piano department

Performance Experience:

During Tian’s time at the Central Conservatory of Music, he participated in the Forbidden City Concert Hall piano concert. During his time at the University of Toronto, he participated in a preconcert in New Creations Festival in the Roy Thomson Hall.

Teaching Experience:

Tian is a member of the Ontario Registered Music Teachers’ Association and a
Royal Conservatory of Music (RCM) teacher. In the past, he tutored and
helped students pass the RCM level 10 piano exams and helped a student
participating in the Kiwanis Music Festival to obtain gold and platinum
placements. Since winter 2021, Tian’s students have received high placements in the following music competitions:
In 2021, first place in a level 6 group in the Unionville Music Competition
In 2022, first place in a level 7 group in the Unionville Music Competition
In 2022, first place in an adult amateur group in the North York Music Festival
In 2023, first place in a level 2 group in the North York Music Festival
In 2023, first place in a level 7 group in the North York Music Festival
